My first reaction to a "dark" Wolverine was not a positive one. Sounded gimicky and forced. I didn't know or care much about Daken and what little I had seen did not impress. So I was giving this series a pass... but then I started hearing little bits and pieces that maybe there was more to this than that ridiculous hair of his.
Now four issues in and I am really enjoying this comic. Daken is not just a cruel(er) version of Logan. He is the most calculating, conniving, and manipulative bastard you have ever run across. I can't tell if he is messing around with Osborn's plans because it amuses him or if he actually plans to usurp power from him altogether (probably both). In this issue he spends a great deal of effort leaking to the public incriminating footage of himself terrorizing a grandmother in order to force Osborn to go to even greater lengths (a full jailbreak) to rehabilitate Daken's public image. It is not 100% clear what Dark Wolvie is up to, but we begin to see that this perverse game he is playing with Norman is likely going to rack up quite a body count. There are no heroes here, but if you think watching a sociopath trying to outwit a psychopath sounds like fun, this might be your cup of tea.
I like Segovia's art fine. His female figures were a little cheesecakey for my liking and some of the layouts seemed a bit rough, but generally it served the story well and he does draws a nice wolverine in uniform.
