This is the book that brought me back to comics. I got an email from the Stephen King website that told me this was coming out in comics and I went to my LCS and was amazed. I went from picking up a few books here and there to dropping 40-60 bucks a month in no time.

This series, like the books, and the Gun Slinger Born moves slowly. The world is created very intricately with great attention to detail. The art is stunning and if you have ever been interested in the world of the Dark Tower the additional information, fleshing out this pre-saga period is enlightening. The back of the books contains an incredible amount of information. Finding out all of the background information on all of the characters is priceless.

This is a great story. Don’t expect instant fulfillment. This book does a great deal of moving the story of Walter tormenting Roland. Some may look at this series as loosing steam. I believe it is actually a matter of weaving an incredibly detailed story. Just like the books, ego is allowed to run free regardless of the cost. As a result the story moves a little slow and is self-indulgent. Myself, I could care less I’m along for the ride. The dark tower books took almost 20 years to finish. I can wait that long for the story to wrap up in the comics too. If you aren’t buying it in issues pick it up in trades. The art it to good to pass on.

At least it comes out on time every month unliake a certain licensed Marvel comic based on a video came.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
