In Elektra we get the second mini-series to fly the “Dark Reign” banner. This may not be a strong as John Hickman’s Fantastic Four, but it is a worthy relaunch of the character.

The story itself isn’t very original and doesn’t really give a good idea to what the mini will be about, but it does set the mood and give us an idea that we’re not dealing with a hero here. One element that raises this story above the rank-and-file is a device which records Elektra’s thoughts and displays them on several screens. In each case they show how she plans to escape. Another bit of genius is Elektra’s use of her own teeth (I’ll just let the imagination go with that one.)

The art, while by no means bad, is a bit dodgy here and there. I think some lines are highlighted which makes some characters look older in places, which leads me to think there’s a bit of a misfire between artist and inker. However the colors are strong and Elektra herself looks good throughout.

This was a decenly strong first issue. Nothing to raise a huge shout about, but if you’ve been clamoring for an Elektra story, and I know alot of people have. This will not dissapoint.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 2 - Average

  1. Good review.  I didn’t think the art was a "5" but I think a "2" is way too low.  But what the heck is the white stuff on the cover?  I think I would have gone 4-4.
