Ok, before you say anything, I know.  I know that this is not the best comic ever.  I know that it’s got some funky story elements, a rushed pace, and panels of art that are just a little bit wonky.  I know all of this.  But the die hard DD fan in me can’t help but “squee” at just how great it is to have DD back.  Let’s get this out of the way: this issue was just ok.  I felt that the series, as a whole, was very briskly paced, and I have noted in the past that it was nice because it kept the story moving and the action quick and satisfying.  The trade off, which happens in this issue, is that the emotional and psychological impact that the character experiences is lost.  It seems as if in a couple short pages, Murdock is over himself and his mopeyness, and he’s ready to kick ass.  After nearly 4 years of “sad Matt,” it’s a little anticlimatic to have it happen so fast.  On the flip side, it looks like “sad Matt” is finally gone!  Hooray! As expected, this issue ends with Matt’s return to New York and a reunion with Foggy.  I find it interesting that he’s stationed in New York again, especially after the events of Shadowland.  I think it places some interesting tension between Matt and his section of the city, which is often such a integral part of the character.  Needless to say, I’m interested to see where this goes, and I can’t wait for a Mark Waid, Marcos Martin, and Paolo Rivera team-up in July!
