Well 27 issues in, and I think I maybe gave one or two of them 4 stars. When this book was announced I was a trade reader and still pretty new to floppies, but I was a DD fan, and I was excited to start a series from the “beginning”. I’m even happier now after Waid and Co. have won Eisners, and made Matt’s adventures must read material once again. As others have said, I hope Waid and Samnee stay on this book for years to come, and when the Omnibus comes out I will happily double-dip so I can loan out this fantastic tale to friends who’ve missed out on one of the best books being published.
*****Minor Spoilers Ahead******

Now for issue #27, we seem to have reached the conclusion to Waid’s first gigantic arc. There have been a few issues that had self contained stories, or focused on events outside of this big tale, but by and large they all lead to this. The best part is that we only found out this was the case three issues ago! All along it seemed like Matt was going about business as usual, tackling new problems and villains as they arose, and dealing with all that life threw at him with nary a fear. Unbeknownst to us this was all the master plan of one of DD’s greatest nemesis'(nemesi?). I won’t spoil who, but if you’ve seen the cover you can probably guess.

This issue had some wonderful moments, my favorite being when we find out Matt has dispatched some super-friends to protect the people he cares about most. It was something I should have seen coming, but didn’t. I completely fell for it, but it made the reveals so awesome! On a side note, can Marvel please make a team book with these characters (DD, Ant-man, Spidey, Iron Fist, and Black Widow), and get Waid to write it? I think my cheap-ass would even pay 3.99 for that, they can even call it “The Mightily Uncanny Amazing Avengers without Fear who know Wolverine”(What? Logan can guest star here and there, can you imagine the sales figures?!?). So anyway, what follows that reveal is another great moment where Matt pulls a fast one on Ikari, and a masterfully depicted, knock-around ninja fight ensues.

I can’t say enough good things about Chris Samnee and Javier Rodriguez. Every page of this book is gorgeous; the panel choices, and how the action is choreographed is phenomenal. Whether draped in shadows, or bursting with lively colors, the mood and tone of the story is always conveyed so well, and it really brings Waid’s scripts to life.

So it’s safe to say I loved this issue, and I can’t wait to continue with Matt’s adventures again next month. This book is a fine example of how superhero books can be compelling, entertaining, and engaging for all ages. Huzzah team Daredevil!
