When was the last time a bad issue of Daredevil came out? Think about it. It's not that easy to come up with an answer, is it? The reason being is that Daredevil is the most consistently good monthly series being published. It's not only always good, but always damn good. In an age where creative teams come and go more often than Pamela Anderson's boyfriends, this is no small feat.
How is it possible that DD, month-in and month-out, kicks the crap out of marquee titles like Batman, Spider-Man, Superman, X-Men, and other "A-list" books? It's because writers know that when they write Daredevil they only have one edict to follow: keep Daredevil alive. (Okay, make that two: don't kill him and don't change his costume.) Everything else is fair game. You can kill all his girlfriends, have his wife committed to a mental institution, fake his best friend's death, blow up his house--pretty much anything--as long as DD survives. This freedom, which, let's face it, hardly exists in the mainstream superhero world, allows creative teams to produce some of their best work. While the more well-known heroes hum along with little change in their lives, Matt Murdock's life is constantly being put through the ringer.
Brubaker's run is proving no exception. The latest victim of existing in the periphery of Daredevil's life is Dakota North, who at the end of the last issue had been shot through the chest by an unknown assailant. While she fights for her life Matt closes in on those responsible, piecing together not only the who but also the why. The final reveal isn't particularly shocking, but the manner in which Brubaker tells this story--which might feel more at home in a crime book like Criminal--will leave the reader feeling satisfied in the end.
Michael Lark and the rest of the art team continue to impress. The figures are expressive and their movement is fluid. The inks and coloring are appropriately dark. The story flows with the rhythm of a good tv procedural. As a matter of fact, most procedurals on television could only hope to be this consistently good.
And did I mention that there are three guys with canes in this issue? You just can't beat that.

I don’t have to think too far back for a bad DD issue. Any of that Mila crap before this arc was bad in my opinion. But hey, that’s just me, otherwise I totally agree.
