What is with countdown? Why is it, that evertime I start to enjoy that book it gets instantly weak and/or boring again?
I can't explain it and it sickens me. I want to enjoy that book. I want to care about Darkseid, the Olsenbug or Ray Palmer. I just can't, what with the fluctuating quality of the book.
Interestingly enough: the good parts of the story are told in other books: Darkseid kicks ass in "Death of the New Gods". The villain dissappearances are told in "Salvation Run". I don't know about the Atom, but I guess his solo book is more fun than this.
And all the characters dying here? Well, 2009 will bring the "Blackest Night", a story I can't wait for!
Since the rating would be too weak, I thought I'd mix it up a bit; because the backup-story (Ra's al Ghuls origin) was a hundredfold times better than the main thing. That's for one credided to the texting of Scott Beatty. Solid. Not special or anything, but solid.
What blew me away though, were Cliff Chiangs superb pencils. Oh my god! This guy is so amazing. Evertime I see his art I get a smile on my face. And I get the feeling that I should write much, much more and work harder, so I might have the chance to work with him someday. Okay, it's a long-shot, but one can dream, right? ;-)
Rating for the main story: 3. For story and art.
The backup: 3 on story (yeah, I know the word's a stretch on this), 6, eh 5 on art!
Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent
