The cancellation of Hellblazer hit me hard but I’ve been a fan of John for ten years and I promised myself I’d give this new book a shot. If nothing else, it’d be nice to not lose my favorite character’s monthly book. I shouldn’t have bothered. I like Jeff Lemire but he doesn’t seem to grasp the character at all. Constantine 1 suffers from the worst thing a comic can be. It’s boring. There’s none of the character of Constantine that I love here. The art is… competent but nothing like Guiseppe Camuncoli’s recent work. Every thing about the book is dull and generic and not worth your time.
