I think this issue of Captain Marvel was lacking a bit. Not that it was bad, but I feel Kelly Sue DeConnick, along with co-writer Christopher Sebela, were holding back. The story starts off with some underwater adventuring then after about 5 or 6 pages this issue becomes a long conversation between Carol and Monica Rambeau. The last five pages is when the story gets interesting again. Hopefully next issue the writing and story will let loose. I’m glad Dextor Soy is back after the crappy art from the last arc.

Comments

  1. I agree, this issue was kind of ho-hum. I enjoyed Emma Rios’ art on the last couple issues, but her style is worlds apart from Dexter Soy’s, so I get it. According to the letters page though, the next issue will be Soy’s last for a while.

  2. I enjoyed this more than the first 4 issues, but not as much as the last two. Hopefully this arc will be more consistent than the previous one. I’ll keep reading this so long as my fiancĂ© is digging it, but honestly, if she didn’t want to read it I would have dropped this series after the first arc.

  3. You know, I don’t think the pencils are all that bad. But those drab, muddy colors ruin everything.
