Hmm. Well, I've been a big fan of this series so far, and I thought issue 3 was absolutely spectacular. I was hoping that the series would continue to build as it has thus far, but unfortunately, issue 4 felt more like a step backward than a progression forward. I won't spoil the issue for those who have not yet read it, but I will say that after last issue's big character reveal, I expected an exploration of the relationship between that character and Captain Atom. It didn't happen. I also expected the team to delve a bit into Atom's military career, beyond just the "you're an airman" or "you're a pilot" or "you have a duty to your country" lines. It didn't happen. We did get to see the military react to Captain Atom, which was awesome, and the final scene provides a neat cliffhanger for the next issue. Freddie Williams's art is still top-notch in my book, especially in his renderings of the titular character. We also got to see a bit more of the mutating monster that has been popping up briefly in each issue, so that was good. Overall, though, the issue just felt too much like filler for my taste.
