Captain Atom is cementing itself into an odd-ball corner of the new DCU for sure. Having defeated the volcano that erupted in Manhattan last issue (can one truly "defeat" a volcano?), Cap receives a message from a kid with a brain tumour. In a mission that in the past would have gone by default to Ray Palmer, the Captain plays up to his Atom moniker by going inside the kid's brain and vapourizing the tumour. The story isn't anything we haven't seen before (it's JT Krul after all), but - as before - the real story is the novel artwork from Freddie Williams III, who is contrasting the heavy blacks of the 'real' world with pastel shades for the pure energy hero. Not the best of the new 52, but I'm interested enough to stick around for a while longer.
