Okay.  Fear Itself has left me as cold as a naked eskimo’s nipples.  Stuart Immonen’s art is AWESOME, but that’s all that series has going for it.  So how is this tie-in my pick of the week?  Because regardless of its context, each character in this issue was just plain damn fun to read.  Mephisto has never been one of my favorites, but I was rooting for him here.  The Hel-Wolf was more than just an evil Battle-Cat-esque mode of transportation with his matter-of-fact bad attitude.  And I’ll be damned if Lil’ Loki hasn’t become one of my favorite new characters.  He’s sort of like Damien Wayne, but more charming, and I honestly belive he wants to do what’s right by his big brother The Thunder God.  The truth is, the Fear Itself story winding its way into most of my regular Marvel books is starting to wear at my good-natured patience, but Journey Into Mystery is my one happy exemption.  Hats off to Kieron Gillen and Doug Braithwaite for giving us something good out of this current crossover.
