I’ve been struggling with ASM since the completion of the first two arcs by Slott and his revolving door of talented artists. There has been numerous times that I’ve wanted to put an issue down because the issues have been dealing with area’s of Peter’s life (avengers and FF) that would be better suited for those books and not Peter’s main book. This issue address that, which is refreshing, by looking at an important relationship to Peter and what it means to be make time for those that we love. We get to see an angry Peter, which can be a scary thing, through the great pencils of Ryan Stegman, who invokes a bit of McFarlene.

Where the issue falters is in the conclusion of the issue. A serious event happens that causes Peter to lose his playful charm and become a Batman like character, hunting the bit crime players in search of a common street thug. It’s a side of Peter that we don’t see often, and when we do see it, we take extra notice of Peter’s emotions and state of mind. However, when the issue ends, It’s a happy moment that is too happy and is too forced, causing the severity of the event to be too be diluted, taking a serious moment and not fully exploring the effect it has on Peter’s and his supporting casts world.
