I am in this to complete the series but it’s been, at times, a painful process. unfortunatley this is one of those painful moments. all of the parts were there but it just ddnt fire on all cylinders. The art was pretty great and I normally love Brubaker so whats wrong? I have the feeling its Bunn. He was not the right pick to “fill in the blanks” for a Brubaker plot line. I think that it’s pretty clear when you read Winter Soldier that Brubaker hasn’t lost a step. Even if he is better at writing Bucky than Steve he still gave a voice to Rogers that’s hard to match.

This final volume from Brubaker had me sticking in because I had faith it would get better but for every book in the last 18 issues that had me applauding there were 3 that did not. I don’t know why I feel invested in sticking through to the bitter end but I sure hope next issue is the pay off I’ve been waiting for.

On that segue, Remender has been a phenom lately so I hope his Marvel NOW writing will re-invigorate Cap but I don’t even know if I’ll pick up this book after this mostly disappointing run.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. There was a lot of interesting ideas in this story arc — politics, a satire on cable news — but all of those ideas were given short shrift in an issue that ends the story line peremptorily.
