Having missed out on issue one (damn short print runs coupled with a lack of digital day-and-date release), I sampled issue two to see what the hub-bub was around this series. I’ve read enough Joe Casey comics to know his sensibilities, so I got what I expected — gritty antihero, fearsome villains, huge stakes, and wacky concepts. However, all those selling points didn’t save this book from being a charmless bore. Casey writes “cooler-than-hell” characters as a rule, badasses who kowtow to no man, but there is no import here, just the equivalent of a guy screaming in a room for three hours. The saving grace here is the Mike Huddleston art, whose style I don’t necessarily enjoy, but whose craft is apparent. I welcome the chance to see him in a different milieu someday.

Story: 1 - Poor
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. I thought it was better than a 1.. more like 3-4. basically an introduction to the villians though, but hey, what do I know.. I’m a newbie and tend to like everything right now..
