Man, DC is really pushing hard to have us care about the Milestone
characters again, aren’t they?

This issue encapsulates what I like and
don’t like about DC right now.

I like that there is an obvious passion
for the characters like Hardware or Beetle and DC plans on putting them
out there as much as possible, regardless of bank ability.

I like that
there is a decent knowledge of the history of the characters. They seem
to be at least trying to give this book some ongoing storylines, even
though I think it worked a lot better as stand alone.

On the other
hand, the enthusiasm for the characters translates to characters that
haven’t been thought about in years, like Hardware, being teamed with
the new wave that cant’ support their own series, like BB, in stories
that have them fighting villains casual fans not knowing or caring
about with even more obscure masterminds in the shadows.

I read a lot
of comics. I mean a lot, but I have not read a Hardware comic before,
and I am very unclear on the motivations and methods of his archenemy.

The art was fine, but didn’t really wow me

  1. I wrote earlier that I was dropping BatB with this issue, but issue 24 was my last.  I really hoped this series would have been better, but most of the stories just weren’t that great.  I don’t like this Beetle incarnation, though I do sort of like Jaime Reyes.  It just seems the scarab/suit can do a little TOO much and create material and constructs that are beyond any stretch of the imagination.
