What continues to impress me with this book is that, over the course of the run, the real gross out horror and the violence has been replaced by the emotional trauma of these characters.  We’ve gone from seeing Wee Hughie’s girlfriend getting ripped apart in his arms, to a close up on Hughie’s face as he watches something awful (that I’m not going to spoil for you) happen to someone he cares about.  This time not having to see the trauma makes it even more impactful.

There is one throw away gross out scene in this book, which was a little funny, but means I will not be eating ice cream for a while.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 5 - Excellent

  1. The Boys sucks so bad now!!

  2. Well this is what working on a graduate degree will do to you … I’m soooo far behind on my reading. I still miss Darick Robertson’s artwork, but Russ Braun’s work is good. It is a matter of taste. I can’t complain but I can’t necessarily rave about it either … 3 out of 5 on art. The storyline on this book has really been phenomenal of late. If all you want is gratuitous violence and sex for the shock value, then this really is the wrong book for you. This issue brought so much from the early days of this book full circle that I was beside myself with complete and total comic book joy after reading this book. My memory may be lousy, but I think this was one of the better issues in the entire run. Can’t wait to see how this works out. The buildup to the showdown with The Seven is slowly gaining steam.
