How do you spell homerun?  T-H-E-B-O-Y-S-#-2-1!  With this current storyline, Garth Ennis is taking this book from meandering to one of the best on the racks.  In hearing the tales of the heroes from The Legend’s perspective, both Hughie and the reader learn something together: heroes in the real world fucking suck.  Big ones.  It’s this theme that makes this issue so much fun to read, and the storyline laid throughout is even more powerful due to the fact that is focuses on the 9/11 attacks.  Or at least, the way the 9/11 attacks happend in their universe.  It’s interesting to see just how horrible these heroes are, and reading the reactions of the people in the planes is simply a gut punch and makes you hate these heroes even more.  And this is very much the point of this series.  In fact, I would say that this issue is the anti-Ex Machina in regards to the 9/11 attacks.  While Max Hundered saves one of the towers in that book, the heroes of The Boys universe save both, but at a very high and conspiratorial cost.

The Boys is quickly becoming one of my favorite books to read, and I’m really excited for the next issue.  If you’ve been on the fence with this book, I would pick up the last three issues as it makes a great starting point and also lays the groundwork for just how this world ticks.

  1. This was the best book in my stack this week.

  2. Agreed, completely, This was a great issue.

  3. Quite good indeed, and the ending of Marathon was brilliant. I’m excited to see the rest of the Boys get back in the book as they will in the next issue apparently.

  4. Love this book!

  5. I love this book, the first trade was the first comic I bought in about 8 years and got me back into reading a lot of comics now. I’ve found this current arc a little boring, but this issue was awesome, loved the innocent look on the boys face before he **ahem** ejected…

  6. I got a little late to my stack but this was my pick of the week. This issue is the best of the series so far as it really destroyes the superhero genre which is what Ennis promised. The last couple of arks were so so, but this one is brillant.

  7. I agree, this book has just gotten better and better…
