I don’t know if I’ve ever been so pleased with one writer’s output as much as I have been with Geoff John’s work over the last couple of years. He just seems to hit out of the park with every issue he touches lately, and I think this current one may be my favorite of this surprisingly good series so far. A great read for those of us missing the JLI stories from the eighties as Johns and Katz don’t skimp on the action while also delivering some solid character moments from such a large cast of characters. Perhaps not the most new reader friendly issue around, but great fun for those of us with a decent knowledge of the DC Universe.

I also find it gratifying to see Dan Jurgens providing such solid art on the title. I think he’s a creator we kind of take for granted nowadays as his star doesn’t seem to shine as bright as the current crop of hot writers like Johns, Morrison, Bendis, Brubaker and so on, but he’s crafted some damn fine stories over the past couple of decades.
