Rucka managed a pretty neat trick in that he actually made me care about Wonder Woman as a character. I’ve never been interested before and don’t know that I will be again, but for these three issues I was completely on board. It’s a shame that the ending is such a let down.

It’s not that the confrontation between Diana and Mera wasn’t handled well, it was, but it didn’t feel resolved in any sort of really satisfying way. Diana quelled Mera’s rage, but only a little and seemingly just long enough for her to be able to participate in the climactic battle as a red lantern. I suppose that’s the issue with ancillary event titles like this one, they can’t really accomplish too much because that would detract from the main book.

In the Main book, Diana was turned into a Star Sapphire and Mera was turned into a Red Lantern. At the conclusion of this book, Diana is a Star Sapphire and Mera is a Red Lantern. I don’t feel like we’re really given anything much more that a few extra moments looking at these characters adjusting to their new powers. What this three issue run ends up feeling like is just deleted scenes from the main book. A scene cut out because who cares about Wonder Woman.

Well, know I care, and I kind of would have liked to see a little bit more of what Rucka could have done with her.

  1. Are you reading Gail Simone’s run on WW?  If not, you might actually care about her a bit more.  Simone is handling WW better than anyone else has in many many moons.
