A perfect balance is really the best way to describe this issue. Since issue #1, Johns had struggled to strike balance between telling a story about the Rogues and telling a story about the Flashes, which made some argue that he should have told a single story. Luckily with issue #3, Johns' finds a perfect balance and really hits a home run. There are some truly great moments with both the Rogues, Owen getting thrown into the ditch for violating the rules of the rogues and Cold freezing iron heights, and the Flashes, Wally and Barry's emotional struggle to free Bart, that were both exciting and emotional for fans of the characters. Even though this series clearly is not a must read for those only reading the Blackest Night event, anyone that is a fan of Johns' run on the Flash should pick it up. I love Johns' run on Flash and absolutely love this issue. On the art Kolins is Kolins, which means that those that love his run on the Flash will enjoy the art but those that aren't on board with his sketchy style will not change their mind based on this book. FInally, man do I love the cover by Kolins. It just makes me smile from ear to ear because its pure superhero fun and makes me feel 5 years old again. Not only my pick of the week but also my cover of the week.
