I wasn’t the biggest fan of Rucka and Williams’ Batwoman stories in Detective Comics. I mean, the writing was good, the story was interesting and JH’s art was of course incredible, but I wasn’t like truly floored by the series as many were (not to mention people and publication basically calling it the best series of all of last year).

This was a shot in the dark for me, not knowing what Williams’ writing style would be like, but mostly getting the book for the art. But let me say that as a prelude issue – this is more than serviceable and the writing is actually pretty good.

There isn’t a whole to to review here as the story is basically just a setup to where the first arc of this story is going to go, but the voice of Bruce Wayne in this story is nice. It’s inner monologue though, so we’ll see how good the writing gets to when there is real person to person communication.

JHW3’s art is of course incredible (And the colors!) and Reeder’s art is pretty decent too. I got this issue as a means for me to decide whether or not I was going to follow this series…and I am.

Story: 3 - Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
