"Night of the Owls" carries into BATWING, and brings me to the series for the first time. And overall I'm not sad that it did. This story feels pretty standalone, both as an entry into "Night of the Owls" as an event and BATWING as a series. Batwing's in Gotham, getting some armor upgrades from Lucius Fox and Batman, Incorporated, when the Talons launch their city-wide strike. Alfred's call to the friends of the Bat reaches him and does its exposition dump thing, so if this is your first "Night of the Owls" issue, it'll bring you up to speed. The story itself is fine - really just Batwing versus a Talon - and well done for what it is, but it does feel a bit inconsequential in the grand scheme. Compared to how a similar plot was handled in, say, NIGHTWING #8, this feels a little slight. Still, it's not a bad story, and it is fun to see Batwing's tactics against a Talon, given his more technological arsenal.
