Batwing has been consistently good since launch and the main reason for that has been the unique setting and characters. While this issue advances the plot and the continuing saga of The Kingdom, moving the story to Gotham and having the whole Bat-family take part diminishes the main character. Batwing is interesting as an African superhero and one that deals with African crises. I hope the story in Gotham wraps up and we get to see more African-centric stories.

I agree, I enjoyed the book much more without the Bat-family. I wonder if their inclusion was an editorial edict. BTW, I just noticed they got the artist wrong. This issue features regular Bat artist Dustin Nguyen.
I agree as well. The Batman connection is fine as a hook of sorts, but its starting to make Batwing look too dependent on Batman. He’s his own hero, operating in a different country. He’s certainly got a unique backstory. Let’s give him a chance to grow on his own, in his own direction and in his own way.
@Metamorphic – I agree the Batman connection is fine, but it’s a knot they seem to be tying too tight for me to feel secure in Batwing’s longevity as a series.
I really hope that after the Court of Owl’s storyline, we get a chance to see Batwing spread his wings (pun intended).
