Somehow Batwing continues to be just interesting enough to make me want to read more. The first story arc was really well done.

The “new” story arc offers some cool riffs on African geopolitical economics. How can that possibly be “cool” you ask? Winick does a great job of pacing and revealing intriguing plot points.

Oh, and Nightwing has a cameo….and Batman…and Penguin. That “dragon” character on the cover has all of about 6 panels devoted to him — kind of a bait and switch. The real meat is how the Penguin sold someone a nuke! And how Batwing’s ops guy/father figure’s family has been decimated in an explosion…and he must now travel to an isolationist police state (think blood diamonds) for their funeral.

What the hell is going on here? So much plot happens so fast it….actually works.

Next issue, the JLI invade the police state of Tundi! Seriously, Batwing is just a hair off from being truly great and memorable.
