I’m not the biggest Kevin Smith fan in the world.  I like Clerks.  I got a kick out of Mallrats that one time I watched it back in the eighth grade.  The movie with Jay & Bob was stupid but funny.  He’s not Quentin Tarantino or anything.

The man can write a good Batman comic though.  I never read any of his other comics except for his other Batman arc so I can’t be comparative.  I like a little bit of humor in my Batman comics once in a while and I can’t think of anybody who would be better at writing that kind of comic then Kevin Smith.

It’s not like this stories are rooted in the actual DC Universe or anything.  They are just for kicks.  Not anything like Morrison’s Batman which will have everybody saying, “what really happened?”  Just for kicks.

The art isn’t really bothering me like so many other people on this site.  Maybe it is just because I’m a Batman fan so I have to be defensive about everything on the racks that has the title Batman on it.  I don’t know.  I’ve seen a lot worse art in comics before though.  This guy might be a little average when it comes to heavy detail, but I enjoy the layouts, and it isn’t hard on the eyes at all.

Not as good as Batman & Robin #3 but I almost enjoyed it just as much.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good

  1. The only Kevin Smith comics I’ve ever read were his Daredevil: Guardian Devil series. It was pretty great, so you might want to give that a try. The other people who complain about his more recent work, they say that Guardian Devil was better. So if you like his more recent work, maybe you’d love that.

  2. @flapjax: Not a big Marvel fan, but I have always wanted to give DD a shot.  Maybe I’ll check that out sometime…??
