I picked this up because of the classic team of Jones and Moench, as well as wanting a good Batman story with Bruce Wayne as Batman. This first issue is nothing special, and at times seems like it belongs more in the "1990s" (like a lot of other books this week). That's not to say that this issue is bad, it just did not blow me away, like, at all. The villain is basically the Invisible Man, but the story reminds me more of that stupid Hollow Man movie with Kevin Bacon. I think it could work out if the story goes in the right direction, though I'm not a big fan of the way the story is broken down into chapters. It possible this story was simply held back a little by the fact it is establishing the rest of the mini and had to give an origin for the villain.
As for the art, its pretty good overall. Nothing new or original for Jones, but that's fine, he draws Batman books the way he does and I'm cool with that. I actually really like the cover, both how it is drawn and the way it looks like a campy horror film (you can't see that from the pic on this review though). Overall, a decent start to this mini, it looks to have some potential and I will stick with it to see where the story goes.
My rating: 2.75/5
Art: 3 - Good
