The final arc of Batman Confidential is turning into a truly spectacular one; Marc Guggenheim is penning a wonderful encounter between Batman and a super powered villain that relates, loosely, to an experience of Bruce Wayne during his years of training. This issue features some great story beats, but really the star here is Jerry Bingham’s artwork. Bingham is, in my mind, one of the ten definitive artists on Batman, and here he combines styles handing in a powerful rendition of Batman through intense pencil work, and a marvellous look into Bruce Wayne’s past through glorious paintings. It’s a duo of styles which complement each other as much as the story, and help to maintain the intense momentum of the arc throughout. The ending of the issue wraps up the lingering question as to the Justice League’s involvement in the 50th issue back-up, and it’s relevance on the main feature. All in all, this was a truly great instalment of a series that isn’t going to be around for much longer.

Story: 4 - Very Good
