While Batman #18 is full of sound and fury, Batman and Robin #18 is a much more somber affair. Without a single line of dialogue in the whole issue, the heavy silence is a palpable thing that haunts every page. When Batman does lurch into action with the same frenzy that drove him hurtling through the pages of Batman #18 the action is brief but intense, lasting only a short few panels before we stagger back to Wayne Manor and the ever present reminder of Damian's passing. In contrast to the note of hope that Batman #18 ended on, this issue closes on the image of a grief-stricken Bruce on his knees, cradling Damian's Robin costume in his arms. Poignantly illustrated on every page, Batman and Robin #18 is a testament to the creative team behind the series and, going forward, has set a high standard that I hope they can continue to meet.
