In this latest issue of Bats versus owls our hero, who by all rights shouldn't even be standing at this point, uses every trick and trap in his base of operations to take out all of the Talons that have assaulted his home, and once again barely pulls out a win. Now it's on to rescuing all of the other movers and shakers in Gotham who are on the Court's hit list. DC's new superstar tag team of Snyder and Capullo delivers the goods once again. I love how Snyder starts the issue off with some background on the Wayne family and then sets the story up so there's a huge payoff connected to it during the climax. It's also exciting to read about a Batman who is still a little wet behind his pointy ears and can be nearly crippled by several trained assassins, even while in his Iron Bat suit. I'm less impressed with the artwork, but that has more to do with not being a Greg Capullo fan(his work is still too Todd McFarlane, and I would like to see him move away from that) than anything else. Even so, his art in this issue is less cartoony and darker, though now that I think about it, that might just be because almost everyone in it has their face covered and is fighting in a cave. It has been thrilling watching Bruce and his compatriots slowly turn the tide against what is undoubtedly one of his all-time greatest adversaries(especially since this one isn't merely a character with a gimmicky psychosis), and now we're one step closer to what I imagine will be a mind-blowing reveal and one hell of a final showdown. This title, perhaps more than any of the other 'new 52', makes good on all of DC's relaunch promises.
