Count me among those who have been dissappointed with what should be the Bat Universe’s flagship title. But I was really impressed with the last issue. This issue is the second part of Tony Daniel’s “The Long Way Back” story and I’m still enjoying it.

First of all, I love to see a story that incorporates some of Batman’s classic rogue gallery. Personally, I love Two-Face and the organized crime element of Gotham. This story has them both and I’m sold on Daniel’s direction. Just like last issue, Daniel grabbed me with a fantastic opening sequence, this time featuring Harvey Dent in a cemetery. There’s some slick dialogue and classic style Batman detective work that overall gives this book an old-school feel.

I also really like Steve Scott’s art. Much like the story, the art has a classic look and feel to it. Scott draws a beautiful Two-Face and most of his action panels are well done. There are a lot of characters in this story and Scott handles them well. He’s just a good fit for this book.

This is a story that finally gets me excited about this title again. Maybe it’s due to me being an older reader but I love seeing these characters depicted well. The only sad thing is that right when the book gets back on track DC is “revamping” the title. Oh well, I’ll enjoy it while it lasts.
