It came down to the last issue but I am now officially sold on this title again. It was always going to be hard to come in with a new Bat but Judd Winick pulls it off with a great climax and some tasty plot threads seeded. The art was gorgeous as well.

I feel confident that the cowl is in good hands on both sides of the page.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

  1. And now I find out that Winick and Bagley are done with the book. I should pay more attention.

  2. lol

  3. lol indeed.

I’m not totally bummed about the Daniel Way run. I liked some of the things he was doing in Battle for the Cowl and I can put the poor ending up to him having to follow some editorial guidelines.

I’ll wait and see. He drew and awesome Joker during Morrison’s run so that gives him points in my book.

  4. Daniels isn’t that bad, he is just new.  Let him prove himself.  I don’t think he would even have a job if they thought he wasn’t capable of pulling something out his sleeve sooner or later.

  5. Daniel Way? You mean Tony Daniel? I like the guy alright. He’s definitely a throwback to the Image ’90s, but I grew up then so I still have a soft spot for that stuff. I can totally see why people thought Battle for the Cowl was poorly written, but I had a good time with it. I think Daniel’s art is cool even if he isn’t the best storyteller. I only read Winick’s first issue (thought it was okay), but every time I saw a Tony Daniel cover since then, I almost bought the issue just because that drew me in.

  6. @flapjaxx: Yes, I do mean Tony Daniel. Dammit, too many Daniel’s in this industry. Please remove some.
