What if Sandman’s The Wake was about, not Morpheus, but Batman?

Apparently, it would fucken rule.

Neil Gaiman does not disappoint in the first chapter of the much ballyhooed “Whatever Happened To The Caped Crusader?”.  The spirit of Bruce Wayne watches his own funeral.  And, in part one, Selina Kyle, and Alfred Pennyworth tell their versions of Batman’s death.

The Selina Kyle tale, and the framework of the story are very good, and familiar (not told before…they just feel familiar) Batman mythos stories.  The Alfred story, though, is phenomenal.  I’m not going to spoil it.  It’s just a really fascinating idea.

  1. How’d you get the issue so early?

  2. It’s my job to deliver the comics to the chain I work at.  So I get to read them when I go home for the night.

  3. You SOB

  4. Nah, if I were an SOB, I’d post all the spoilers all over the site.  I’m really more of a LB.

  5. Definitely a LB.
