I am someone that is excited about the new DC reboot, but if there’s one oversight, it’s the disappearance of Stephanie Broiwn.  I can’t tell you how much fun this series is month in and month out, and it’s just a real bummer we won’t be getting much more of this come September.  This issues features Stephanie flying to England to meet Bruce.  At the airport, she’s picked up by Squire, and from there, the adventure gets crazy.  There are several great moments in this series, but I was overjoyed to see some of the overlap from Paul Cornell’s Knight and Squire series.  This comic touched on that series British-ness while still maintaining the voice of Stephanie, and her reactions are exactly as you would expect.  One of the great things that Bryan Q. Miller manages to do with Stephanie is that he gives her this happy-go-lucky, go with the flow attitude.  She’s a female Indian Jones.  Best of all, she’s crazy fun to read.  Miller does an amazing job of pairing the two heroes together, and their banter is excellent fun.  The characters play up their Britsh-ness (or lack thereof), and the issue tells a great single story that’s both fun and charming.

Pere Perez is back for this issue, and it looks great.  As a regular artist for the series in it’s early days, you can tell he just has fun drawing the pages, and his storytelling is great.  Stephanie and Squire show a lot of emotion in their faces, and some of the jokes are sold on Perez’s pencils.  This is a great looking issue.

  1. I’m the same way with the reboot–very excited to read and discover a whole new universe–but I really hope they don’t change too, too much about the way Batman and related books are going…Detective has been so fantastic, and Gates of Gotham looks to be cool too!
