I rarely write reviews, but in this case I feel moved.

I like the character Azrael.  I like him after Bane broke Batman and I like the idea of him now.  The idea.  Not the execution.

Fabian Nicieza and Ramon Bach’s Azrael is disappointed on so many levels.  First off the story.  The religious aspect could be interesting, and DC has soooo many religious characters, but in this case it just doesn’t work.  It seems heavy handed, and more importantly uninteresting.

Nicieza’s dialogue was forced, and stilted.  Now that wasn’t the biggest problem by a long shot.

Bach’s art.  Ugh.  I love the comic book form and the art often is the highlight of my experience.  There are times when its not perfect but I’m able to glaze over it.  Not this time.  The art was so off that it distracted from the story.  Every time I was getting into the moment the art took me out of it.  The art…uhg.

For me this was a 2/1 and there is NO chance I’ll buy the next issue.

Story: 2 - Average
Art: 1 - Poor
