There’s very little not to like about AVENGING SPIDER-MAN in general, and maybe that’s why I felt this issue fell short. As much as it’s still a fun little one-and-done, it’s nothing to write home about.

This month Spidey teams up with She-Hulk in a mystical adventure that – well, it involves cats. That’s as far as I’ll go. It’s neat, and sometimes funny, but a number of the jokes are a bit on the nose – even for Spidey. Which is too bad, because I figure these two characters could play off each other better than they do here. I do rather like the finale, though.

The art is not Immonen’s best, ranging from perfectly unremarkable to a bit stiff. One wonders if the Immonens maybe felt this story write itself a bit too much – which can happen – and didn’t give it all the care it might’ve needed.

Criticisms aside, though, this series continues to be an excellent offering from Marvel for those who want one-shot stories and their monthly dose of the Webslinger.
