I’ll be completely and unabashedly honest: I loved this book. I loved it almost as much as I love Liberty Bonds.

This story could have fit into almost any sort of genre. It’s a story of one person trying to reach out to someone he didn’t think he knew but suspects he might understand. The fact thst these characters are Spider-Man and Captain America just means that they trounce some bad guys in the middle – and damn do they look good doing it.

Wells really knows how to write entertaining scenes with the Avengers. Spider-Woman, Hawkeye, Wolverine, and Red Hulk all appear in this issue, and the interplay is really entertaining without consuming the story like it might in the hands of a different writer. But the focus is still Spidey. Spidey and Cap. And Liberty Bonds.

Maybe it’s a bit sappy. But it’s well-done sappy, and that’s good enough for me.

Story: 5 - Excellent
