Full disclosure - the concept behind the Siege Crossover hooked me, and I have jumped into this title midstream. So, while I'm familiar with the characters, I have little to no idea about what was immediately going on with them prior to this issue. Nonetheless, I think the writing was a treat. I'm a sucker for "mind of the villain" stories, and this reminded me of some of those great Flash Rogues Gallery stories. The breakdown in Taskmaster's mind between the villains who have a bigger-than-life reputation and those who don't was as fascinating as it was tragic. My god man, I know you want respect, but doesn't it seem like a little much to start tangling with someone who can juggle tanks? I think both this and last week's Dark Wolverine showed us an interesting side of Siege: the little guys who can't help but wet themselves a little when told they have to take the field against gods. Gage's choice to intertwine Diamondback's story paid off beautifully in the final panel. Just as Taskmaster's story complemented Dark Wolverine, I thought Diamondback's read well alongside the Sentry's story from last week's Dark Avengers: some people just aren't cut out to be heroes. Their instincts are bad. Their luck is worse. We can't all be Captain America. I thought Sandoval's art was kinetic and lent a good sense of chaotic urgency to the final scenes, but overall left me a little cold, and the coloring seemed muddy.
