Avengers Academy has become a Top Five book for me very recently and very fast. The more I've been reading comics over the last few years I've realized that only certain characters interest me. I start reading the X-men, Wolverine, Superman, Hulk and other books but eventually don't stick around because I just don't like the characters. It's hard for me to figure out what it is or why they don't interest me but for some reason these Avenger kids have become some of my favorite characters in Marvel. Though I like the kids in this book the adults are a list of some lame characters in my opinion from Speedball, Quicksilver, to Tigra. But as long as they always have Hank Pym at the head it's all good.
I have actively not been buying any Fear Itself crossovers but have been reading all of my regular books even thou they may be tie-ins. I cringed a little when I saw this book was selected but once I got rolling with the story I enjoyed this whole issue. There were some awesome moments in this book; for example when Hank Pym tells Maria Hill to 'shut up'. Their teleportation door shifting between hospitals every minute to transfer survivors was a cool idea. But with the good there is the bad, I am tired of them continually talking about how these kids might of turned into villains..don't see it. The Tigra flashback was strange in the middle. Tigra comforting Mettle and Striker in the middle of the battle is always lame when writers do that. Have that talk before or after a fight, fills pages though.
Art was good enough, I like Hazmat in this, she was drawn perfect size and love her suit. Hank's and Tigra's faces where a little smooshed in on some side profiles but probably just lay-out. The battle areas of Long Island and D.C. were bland and boring. Plus they were fighting only one Mech?? Besides those things I love this book and the setup for the Hank Pym fight makes me excited for the next issue.
