Sometimes JRJ can draw fantastic art and sometimes it just doesn’t work.  This issue unfortunately has both.  The first part of the book features some classic JRJ work as Red Hulk, Thor and Namor team up to retrieve Namor’s gem hidden at the darkest part of the ocean.  JRJ could draw a whole issue of this teamup and it would be great.  Too bad its really short.  Bendis then has two teams mixed with Illuminati, Avengers, New Avengers and Secret Avengers go retrieve the other gems.  Bendis has some great dialogue for Steve and Tony’s team but little action.  For the team with Professor X and the craziest Danger Room sequence in a long time. Its all action but JRJ didn’t deliver or maybe Jansen had trouble with the inking.  This issue reminded me of big Avengers stories like Operation Galactic Storm and JLA/Avengers.  The cliffhanger for this issue makes me wants more, but I hope the art gets under control.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 3 - Good

  1. I agreed – the art looked rushed in places, which is disappointing because I generally love JRJ.
