I love the classic feel of this book. It distills super heroes down to their essential parts and uses those parts to make them truly engaging. I heard someone said Johns wrote yesterday’s comics today, and that is a really great way of describing this book. Having it tied down to a specific year really gives it a very definitive feel. I think 82 was about when Miller started writing DD, and the stuff with Jack in the Box really underline that feel. As lame as a name as Hellsignor is, the incident really could have happened in Teen Titans in the 80s. The first to Dark Age books didn’t have the feeling of forward momentum that this one did, and that made it a lot more entertaining. I love Brent Anderson art work, and these covers are about the only thing Alex Ross does anymore that I find enjoyable. 7/10
