While I really enjoyed this series overall, at some points during the course of it I felt like it was meandering a bit too much.  That said, the payoff with this final issue was phenomenal.  We got better insight into the Wolverine/Spiderman relationship (in many ways, they've always reminded me of brothers ((or maybe cousins)) that can't stand one another), a new layer to Peter Parker's emotional rollercoaster of a life, and a great ending to the story.  Frankly, I was beginning to wonder at the end of issue 4 how they were possibly going to tie everything together and I think they did it wonderfully.  We didn't spend too much time on "Phoenix Wolverine," we just heard a story about how that was solved and got to the emotional core of the series.

I thought this was a very good series overall and I think that reading it in trade might be an even more pleasurable experience.  I understand why the series was published bi-monthly, and I appreciate that they were straightforward rather than just continually pushing it back, but seeing the story develop over such a long period of time made it difficult to go back to such a complex and convoluted narrative (and I mean complex and convoluted in a good way).  If you haven't read it yet, I bet that you'll enjoy reading the trade of this series quite a bit.
