Astonishing Spider-Man and Wolverine continues to be a wonderful comic book romp. It’s completely over-the-top in the way that good comics usually are. This story has time-travel, a Phoenix Force gun, a Cosmic Cube, and of course, there’s Marvel’s favorite odd couple, Spider-man and Wolverine, at each other’s throats (literally).
Jason Aaron has a pitch-perfect grasp on these characters. He knows what makes them work individually, as well as what makes them work as perfect foils to each other. The dialog and caption boxes are perfect.
In this installment, Wolverine has decided to take it upon himself to destroy the Doom Planet using the Phoenix Force gun, the kickback from which Wolverine knows will tear him apart. I won’t go into too much detail as to what happens next because I do not want to spoil it for anyone. All I’ll say is, this comic continues to be very good. And, this issue ends with yet another cliffhanger, and while not as impressive as the Doom Planet reveal, the next issue promises to be very entertaining.
As for the art, what can I say? Andy Kubert is bringing it. There is a three-page spread in the beginning of the book that’s just amazing.
Art: 5 - Excellent
