I really like this version of Animal Man.

Buddy and Maxine bring the supernatural intrigue, but Ellen and Cliff bring the heart. I loved their role in this issue, and story arc.

As Ellen, and later Buddy fought the agent of the rot I was really afriad for them. I’ve never been afraid for Superman, and that’s what this book is offering. I can see Buddy’s family as the everyman’s family and I’d hate (or morbidly interested) if something bad happened to one of them.

As for the art, I couldn’t tell there was two artists on the book. I noticed the credit, but got lost in the story so didn’t see the chance. I know the art isn’t for everyone, but I actually think it was cleaner this issue than it has been.

I was hoping for a resolution to the arc so I could give this trade to people as an example of a fun comic, but I see now Lemire, and probably Snyder, are playing a long game here, so I’m gonna buckle up in the RV with buddy and co. and see where we end up.
