“Animal man a fake?” Not in this reviewers opinion.

Just want to point out Lemire’s use of social media that has reoccurred in this title for awhile. The placing of the tweets ( for lack of a better definition ) gave the story a lighter touch to the dark and dramatic narrative. The over all arch of this book requires this darkness, after all the Baker has been going through, anything different would be a disservice.

Also, Brother Blood (whose introduction in the New 52 did not win me over) is reborn from Lemire’s pen into the villain he should have been from the start, maniacal and scary cult leader who is hungry for power and craves to be worshiped.

The differential art styles for Maxine’s and Buddy’s storyline compliment in the same manner. Pugh brings out the raw emotion in Buddy while Portela gives the reader a dreamy child like portrayal of Maxine’s adventure.

Lemire is hitting the marks in a good many of the books he crafts, and Animal Man feels like a creator’s play ground again ( the play ground was under construction during the Rot Wars).

My only complaint about this issue, the playground is closed and we have to wait 2 months for it to reopen.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good
