WOW!!! No one talks about this book yet verything I do hear about it is good. the question then arises, how di hear good things about a book no one talks about?

When Buffy season 8 was announced excitement swept over me. At last we could return to the buffyverse with Wheddon at the helm. After the first few issues, I realised I hadn’t missed it as much as I thought. While it was good to see the gang back together there were ridiculous amounts of questions that have still not been fully explained.

So why in a review of Angel issue #5 I am talking about Buffy? The answer is becuase when this book was announced I was even more excited than Buffy, and I had good reason to be.

Each issue is at the top of my pull list as the story continues to grip me and take me on a rollercoaster of a journey. Issue 1 wasn’t great, the story was a little disjointed and the art took some getting used to. Issue 2 picked it up though and with issue 5 we are in the heart of some of the best comic scenes that my eyes have glanced at this year. the story is fanatatsic with each issue giving you a shocking cliffhanger than any angel fan will drop their jaw at. Issue upon issue I think it can’t get any better. Wheedon (who plotted the story) and witer Brian Lynch have an amazing accuracy on the mammoth cast of charcters while introducing new characters for Angel to battle. As I said the art was little off in issue 1 but it gets better with eacvh issue, especially when Lorne appears.

Without spoiling this, PICK THIS BOOK UP. If you are a fan of buffy or Angel this is the book to be reading. I can’t beleieve, Ron, Connor or Josh are not discussing this, its amazing.

Story: 5 - Excellent
Art: 4 - Very Good

Comments

  1. ANGEL had one of the most perfect endings of any TV show.  The story ended, for me, in that last episode.  I just can’t acknowledge any further story.

  2. My initial reaction to this series was the same as Conor’s.  I feel like fans of the show are sharply divided between those who are dying to know what happens next, and those who don’t ever want it to continue.  I tend to be in the latter camp; that said, I have heard enough intriguing things about the series that I’ll probably pick up the first trade, at least to flip through it.  I’m just not acknowledging it as "real," you know?

But anyway, I think the "end was perfect" camp might explain why this book isn’t getting more buzz.  That, and being overshadowed by Buffy, which has bigger-name creators attached to it, at least so far.  Now, if Spike and Angel would just make out already . . . (not that I’m actually advocating this; it just seems like that’s still the shortest route to the New York Times).
