Twenty-seven issues in, and I think this is the first time I’ve been underwhelmed by this book. This issue wasn’t bad, but I usually can only think of things to praise about it, and this time I saw some flaws.

I don’t think the art was bad, but I thought last issue was much better. The lines were very heavy and most of the characters squinted the entire book, but those are just nit-picks really. The story was interesting enough, the evolution-based mythology is a pretty inventive way to introduce new baddies. I do think the ending would’ve had more bite(haha, vampire pun) if the cover was different, but again nit-pick.

I hope they keep Calvin around as part of the team, he seems like a character who has a lot of room to develop. This side story was the first real introduction to him as a person, and I’d like to find out more about him. All in all this was a decent aside from the main narrative, but I’m happy to return to Pearl and Henry(and Albuquerque!) next month. For a book that I normally give a five without hesitation, it feels weird to give it less, but I have a level of integrity to maintain. That’s right, a guy named TurdSandwich still thinks about integrity. Thanks for reading.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 3 - Good
