This blew me away.

It might be the best thing I’ve ever read by Dan Slott. I went into it with very low expectations, however the bar has now been set very high for the Venom series.

The story was fun, fresh and everyone was in character. It felt like a new direction, and set up a lot of great things that I want to follow up on. Can Flash, a fairly decent and likable guy control the Venom suit….or as this issue suggests will it eventually take over?

I have always loved Humberto Ramos, but this was expectionally well done. He draws Flash/Agent Venon/Fullblown Venom with equal skill. They all look perfect. I’m half disappointed he isn’t he regular artist on Venom, until I remember it’s Tony Moore.

I already read Spider-man, so wasn’t coming at this as a jumping on point, with is lucky because it’s a poor jumping on point for Spider-man. This would have made more sense as a Venon #0, but I think they must be out of favour at the moment. At the moment .1’s are the in thing.

If you’re curious about the new Venom series, I’d strongley recommend Amazing 654 and the point one, as I think both are great Venom/Flash stories. Hopefully Remender and Moore can keep this tone going…and the book may make it past five issues….maybe

The double page “trailer” for the next year of Amazing was interesting. It hints that a supporting cast member will get superpowers and that there could be a romantic relationship between another supporting cast member, and a villian (not Aunt May and Doc Ock this time)…hopefully those books will have the fresh feeling of this issue.

Story: 4 - Very Good
Art: 5 - Excellent
