I would like to preface this review by saying that I am thoroughly enjoying Slott's run on ASM, overall. Having said that I think this issue suffers from a few pacing issues. It seems like Slott is trying to get to certain plot points that is making him speed through the parts in between. An example is near the end of the issue when the Ne Avengers and SM are fighting on multiple fronts to stop Smyth's army. Iron Fist and SM figure out that the bug-army have a form of spidey-sense that is making them impossible to fight. SM leaves the battle to travel across town to Horizon Lab to make a spider-sense jammer! At the same time the New Avengers are fighting an unbeatable enemy. Now, I know it's comic books and that I'm probably looking to much into it but it's parts like these that take me out of the story. In all honesty the spider-slayer arc is awesome with a lot of tense moments but it seems rushed more than the situations call for. Aside from this, it was a good issue, story-wise. The action scenes were great especially with the New Avengers. Each character got some attention especially Squirrel Girl with a redemptive moment. I liked the confrontation with Max and Peter and I look forward to seeing how Slott writes out that situation. I don't think Peter can use the excuse of working in his underwear again. Aside from Slott, Caselli and Delgado knock it out of the park with the art in this issue. I cannot point to a panel where I thought the art/coloring was wonky or phoned in. It really helped carry the narrative and helped keep me in the story. Every character has motion and meaning in their posture and/or action. The characters aren't stagnant and it looks as though each panel is a real snapshot in time and not drawn, which to me is a testament to great artwork in comics. Overall a very good comic and I look forward to where Slott takes this arc.
