Man, I don't think the Chameleon has ever been this creepy before. He was the first villain I ever read in a Spider-man book. It was the arc where we found out that the Parkers were androids sent to kill Pete. Ah the wacky 90s. But yes, even then, when he was begging for his life and didn't know who he really was, he was still not nearly as creepy as he was here. I think Van Lente has been doing an amazing job taking the lesser villains and making them interesting. Hell, he made Slyde cool. That's worth an Eisner right there. The art works really well, but I'd kind of like to have a consistent artist for 6 issues at a time if it's not too much trouble. I'm kind of curious of the new Cham is a new one or the old one. Doesn't matter in the long run, since the book is solid either way.
